Finally, Doing the Right Thing

Mayor Shelia Dixon - photo from Maryland Manual On-lineOn 4 December 2009, I commented here on Mayor Shelia Dixon’s conviction on the charge that she stole from needy children while President of the Baltimore City Council and her refusal to step down from office.

Yesterday, Shelia Dixon resigned as the Mayor of Baltimore City.  I, for one, was saddened that Ms. Dixon put herself in this position. She was full of promise and on the fast track to being the  Governor of Maryland within this decade. However, had she not resigned, she would have been forced out under Maryland law.

Ms. Dixon, in resigning, did not acknowledge her guilt which I find very disappointing. She did admit that there was enough evidence to convict her, which a jury properly did in December.

It is a very sad end to a very sad story.
